Industrial Heritage Area
The CC Snowdon Oils Factory and Office building was built in 1911. One of the first oil manufacturing and refining businesses in Western Canada, this iconic red brick architecture transformed in 1983 to become a site for small businesses, coffee shops, and studios. Directly behind the Snowdon Building is one functional Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) track and a second abandoned track that virtually disappears in the summer months as vegetation flourishes. This abandoned track offers rich insight into potential creative uses of underutilized or dismissed open spaces along the CPR tracks by community members of all ages.
